Ingredients

  • 500 g soy beans
  • 3 L water
  • 5 tbsp sugar or honey

Instructions

  • Soak the Beans: Wash the dried soybeans and put them in water for 8-10 hours or overnight. The beans will get big.
  • Cook the Beans: Put the beans into a big saucepan with lots of water. Heat it until it starts boiling, then let it simmer for about an hour or until the beans become soft. Keep an eye on it while it cooks, as it can easily bubble over.
  • Blending: Mix the soybeans, water, and sugar in a blender until they’re completely smooth. You’ll want about 1 cup of cooked beans for every 3 cups of water. Save the extra beans by freezing them in small portions for later.
  • Straining: Use a strainer or cloth to separate the milk from any residue. (optional)

Notes

    • A good blender can easily turn soybeans into a very smooth mixture. If you’re using a high-speed blender, you could consider skipping the straining step.
    • For those who enjoy savory soy milk, think about adding soy sauce and sesame oil after making the soy milk.
    • Feel free to customize the water amount according to your preference, whether you prefer a thicker or thinner soy milk consistency.
